The 4th edition of GeCCo breaks all records

Slice 1_copy1Global eCollaboration Competition (GeCCo 2015) organized by the IPMA Young Crew has gathered 96 young project managers and broke the record of the previous years. On November 7th and 8th, 16 virtual teams from 18 countries took place in competitions’ 4th edition. Every year the organizing team does its best to provide unique content and experience participants to have the best possibility to experience the work in virtual environment with team members of different culture backgrounds.

In this edition, participants could learn more about project management from GeCCo Academy – a serial of project management lectures from internationally renowned project management professionals like Miguel Carvalho e Melo and Małgorzata Kusyk.

The new website ( was launched in order to gather all information about the project in one place and provide YC members with GeCCo news. Participants followed GeCCo Twitter and GeCCo Facebook page and were able to catch up with the keynote speaker’s speeches on GeCCo Youtube channel.

During the competition, except creating and managing their own teams and solving case study tasks, the participants could learn from experienced project managers. Four keynote speakers shared their knowledge and experience. The opening ceremony has been marked with the lecture of Małgorzata Kusyk (Poland), who shared important tips on how to build a high performance team in virtual environment. Iris Hauck-Rameis (Austria) gave advice on the proper way of using project management tools for successful virtual collaboration. Slice 1_copy3Eleni Tsechelidou (Greece) shared her experience in online virtual team collaboration on her own life example referencing to ‘Trip around the world in 80 days’ book by Jules Verne. The keynote speaker that closed
the competition was Peter Milsom (UK), he showed the participants what sustainable change delivery means for project management.

The participants had an opportunity to network and socialize on virtual platform – Blab, which was a central meeting point for Q&A and experience sharing sessions. But, as in any team, it was not all about work. The midnight toast was a great opportunity for the participants to have fun and relax before the final submissions.

Nothing could have been accomplished without the support of the IPMA Young Crew volunteers that have taken the responsibility to be Local Organizers in the national YCs and helped in making this GeCCo story live.
