Mental toughness
Sunday, November 28 at 4:00 pm – 4:35 pm CET

Mental toughness is the key to understanding our mental responses in times of crisis, chaos, challenge and opportunity. As an expert in this field, Doug will show us how to thrive when faced with stressors and pressure.

Mental Toughness is a concept which has always been important but until recently has been difficult to describe and difficult to apply. It is not about being “macho” or aggressive. It is entirely about adopting a mental approach to what happens to us and around us which enables us to be resilient when setbacks occur and positive about what we face.

First mentioned by Plato, researchers have now been able to understand that mental toughness is a personality trait which describes “how we think” when events occur. In turn this helps us to understand why we act the way we do (behaviour) and why we feel the way we do when things happen (emotions).

AQR International and its academic colleagues world wide are at the forefront of this research and of understanding its application.

It is fundamentally important in creating self awareness and self reflection about behaviour, emotions values, etc.

It also brings a valuable and important approach to understanding, what the renowned US sports psychologist Jim Loehr, described “how we can all be the best version of ourselves that we can be”.

This session will:
Describe what Mental Toughness is – its 8 components
How it can be assessed and developed
Its importance and the evidence for this
