The sophisticated problem solver: separating idea generation from idea evaluation
Sunday, May 30 at 4:50 pm – 5:20 pm CEST

In life and in work, we encounter problems, challenges, and opportunities. The sophisticated problem solver – those who know to separate idea generation from idea evaluation arrive at more novel and useful solutions and responses. Just like driving where you cannot have your foot on the gas and the break at the same time, the same is true with ideas. To be successful in problem solving and innovation, you cannot idea generate and idea evaluate at the same time.

In this session, attendees will learn ground rules and experience tools for divergent thinking (a broad search for many diverse and novel alternatives) and convergent thinking (focused and affirmative evaluation of alternatives).

Key take aways:

  • An understanding of the dynamic balance between divergent and convergent thinking
  • An ability to increase team performance and foster a work climate that draws maximum potential from each team member
  • Learn techniques to transition a team from a discussion mindset to problem-solving culture
  • Create and sustain a participatory environment and inclusive culture that increases engagement between team members
